Have you ever made slime? The stretchy string of goodness! My children have always enjoyed playing with slime and adore cutting slime. Today’s sensory activity gives them an opportunity to satisfy their need for “cutting slime” while creating play food.

We started off with making a slightly harder slime, more putty-like and less slimy. I did not have the exact colors for making pretend pizza but I tried. My red (for tomatoes) was more pinkish than red.

I placed the different colored slime in paper plates and gave them knives and forks ( please use them at your own discretion) They tried making pieces.

But ended up simply pulling the pieces out and creating their pizza on the brown and white slime. The squishing, pulling, tugging and cutting part of this sensory activity turned out to be the best part.

The red, green and yellow ended up being toppings for their pizza.

How to make play food slime.

  1. 1/2 cup liquid starchkids sensory activities
  2. 1/2 cup white gluekids sensory activities

Add 1/2 cup white glue in a bowl and add 1/4 cup of liquid starch and start mixing. Once you get a stretchy substance, keep kneading and add the rest of the liquid starch. Your slime will not be very stretch but more putty-like. This is better for pinching and cutting. To make the slime colored, add your preffered food color to the white blue before adding in the liquid starch.
